Rao has been writing, teaching, and consulting for more than three decades.
During his professional career he began anew many a time, engaging a variety of disciplines: manufacturing technology, cost improvement, strategic planning and business development, environment -- health -- safety risk assessment and management, among them.
His recent focus has been on the intersections of environment -- energy -- economics (3E) and spiritual entrepreneuring (the Tao of Dow), blending science with spirit, business with purpose.
Rao has worked with major corporations including American Cyanamid (now part of Wyeth/Pfizer) and CH2M HILL – combining technical and business initiatives.
He has taught graduate courses or presented seminars at Columbia University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and others. He has spoken (as invited guest) on major issues including environmental and health risks, Ecology -- Energy -- Economics strategies, sustainable development and business bottom line in the US, Canada, Japan, India, and China.

Educated in the East and the West, starting with pre-medicine and engineering, Rao obtained a doctorate in environmental health sciences from Columbia University and a MBA from New York University. His handbooks on environmental and health risks, published by McGraw-Hill and translated into Japanese, Spanish and other languages, serve as references worldwide.
Rao is President of the Society for Risk Analysis New York Metro Region. Earlier he served on the toxicity advisory committee to New York City. As the International Chair of a Rotary Club, Rao is involved in funding vocational training and clean water projects overseas.
